While many of you are familiar with Jazz St. Louis’ award winning concert series, Jazz at the Bistro, you may not realize that we also have an extensive portfolio of education programs aimed at elementary, middle and high school students in the greater St. Louis area. Since 2000, over 100,000 students have participated in Jazz St. Louis’ educational programming.
Because of generous support, emerging student musicians can enroll in JazzU and challenge their chops with the Jazz St. Louis All-Stars. Teachers can take their classes to one of our exciting and engaging Youth Concerts as part of our 2011 Youth and Family Concerts presented by PNC Arts Alive, or host an artist in their school through the Emerson Jazz in the Schools program.
Is there a jazz ensemble at your school? Have one of our three amazing residency artists conduct a clinic or master class with your jazz band or combo. If you aren’t located in the St. Louis area, check out our distance learning program called Jazz from the Inside and the online student and teacher resources page of our website.
New during the 2011-2012 season is our first ever Family Concert, which features JazzReach and is a perfect outing for families with children of all ages. Also, be sure to keep an eye out for our soon-to-be-released standards-based jazz curriculum, Jazz Concepts for the Young Beginner, which is being piloted in the St. Louis Public and Arch Diocese school districts this year.
The best part is that the majority of these opportunities are completely FREE for participating schools. Check us out, because we have something swingin’ for everyone!
