Auditions will take place June 2-5, between 4 and 9 pm at the Centene Center for Arts and Education, located at 3547 Olive Street, St. Louis, MO 63103. Specific room information will be sent with the audition letter, once the application has been received.
applications must be postmarked by Friday, May 2, 2014. Once the application materials have been received, students will be assigned an audition time on the date which corresponds with the applicant’s instrument (see below). Audition times will be sent via standard US mail.
Monday, June 2 – saxophones
Tuesday, June 3 – trumpets and trombones
Wednesday, June 4 – rhythm section
Thursday, June 5 – rhythm section
Results of the auditions will be announced during the first part of July.
Application Materials and Resources:
The application is an editable .PDF. You can type directly into the application and sign electronically (you must save the application to your desktop before you can type into the fields). Applications and answers to questions can be attached to an email and submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org or mailed to the address listed on the application. The teacher recommendation (for NEW students only) can be sent separately, via standard US mail. Please make sure that the students name is indicated on every piece of paper to ensure that no items are lost.
Below are lead sheets in concert pitch for each audition tune. Only pick one from each category and REMEMBER, they are in concert pitch, which means that you will have to transpose if you do not play a concert-pitched instrument. Also listed with each tune is a suggested reference recording. Use the reference recording to help learn the tunes, phrase the melody, and improvise.
