“…ranging from sublime to positively pyrotechnic… the best B3 player on the planet” – Jazz Times
Joey DeFrancesco celebrates the festive season performing live with trio members Jeffrey Parker, George Fludas in support of his latest release, Home for the Holidays. The Hammond organ may be the instrument best suited to holiday themed music. It produces a gloriously warm, rich, and full-bodied sound — the aural equivalent of a hug from Santa Claus! Place that instrument in the hands of a genuine virtuoso, along with a carefully chosen selection of favorite holiday songs and Christmas carols, and you have the recipe for an instant classic.
Not much in jazz combines the churchy moan and shaking hip like a Hammond B-3 organ, and Joey DeFrancesco is one of its modern masters. Playing with Hank Mobley and “Philly” Joe Jones at just 10 years old, and joining Miles Davis’s band at 17, DeFrancesco has had a storied career that has seen him travel the world with some of the greatest musicians of all-time, leading to the resurgence of the organ in jazz today. Both a top-flight organist and an accomplished trumpeter, he has won a raft of awards from both jazz critics and listeners alike, and has been nominated for two Grammy Awards. DeFrancesco embellishes his swingin’, old-school organ with his own ferocious sound.
style: straight-ahead/soul jazz / holiday
