“By any standard, jazz or otherwise, it is moving, mighty music.” – Rolling Stone

Celebrating 10 years…2007 – 2017 at Jazz at the Bistro!

Just as The Bad Plus had cemented their place as an original music ensemble, they’re about to mix things up again. Except for their interpretation of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring — their last four albums focused almost exclusively on original compositions. It’s Hard, however, will mark The Bad Plus’s return to an aspect of their roots, the very thing that first made them famous: the deconstruction of songs from the pop/rock and R&B worlds.

Among the tightest, hardest working bands in the world, there has not been a line-up change or substitution in 17 years. Featuring bassist Reid Anderson, pianist Ethan Iverson and drummer Dave King, The Bad Plus is a leaderless trio with a committed belief in what they’ve dubbed ‘avant-garde populism’ — the idea that serious music can be as engaging and accessible as it is forward-thinking and provocative.
