Title: Director of Communications
How long have you worked for Jazz St. Louis?: 5 years, 8 months
Do you play any instruments?: alto sax
Top three favorite Jazz St. Louis produced concerts:
John Patitucci Trio (May 2010), Dr. Lonnie Smith Trio with James Carter (April 2013), Anat Cohen Quartet (February 2012)
Artist you would most like to work with, but haven’t yet: Stevie Wonder
Last jazz album you listened to: Chris Lightcap’s Bigmouth – Deluxe (I would highly recommend taking a listen)
Three favorite non-jazz artists/bands: Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Björk
Favorite place to hear music other than The Bistro: Off Broadway. The sound usually isn’t the best, but for the level of artists they get, it is a very intimate venue and people go there to listen.
Three favorite movies: The Godfather, Moulin Rouge, Rocky
Three favorite TV shows: Older shows: Seinfeld, Friday Night Lights, and Friends. Current shows: Parks and Recreation, House of Cards, and Louie
Favorite restaurant for:
1) Breakfast/Brunch: Brasserie by Niche
2) Lunch: Sauce on the Side (and Qdoba)
3) Dinner: The Shaved Duck
Pastimes/Hobbies: rock climbing, photography, film, food, rooting for Da Bears, and searching for the best Root Beer in the world (so far my favorites are Barq’s, IBC, and the in-house brew from Square One Brewery & Distillery)
Worst job you’ve ever had: For the most part, I’ve enjoyed the jobs that I’ve had, but most people find it interesting that I worked in a cemetery for two summers in my late teens.
Career Bio: Devin began with Jazz St. Louis as an intern in May 2008. Upon completion of his summer internship, Devin was hired as a part-time employee while finishing his senior year at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, where he graduated in May 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in music business. Devin eventually expanded his duties into a full-time position in November 2011 as the Communications & Operations Manager, fulfilling the day-to-day marketing efforts of Jazz St. Louis and running front- and back-of-house at Jazz at the Bistro concerts. In December 2013, Devin was promoted to Director of Communications, and now oversees all aspects of Jazz St. Louis’s marketing and public relations efforts. Outside of work, Devin can be found playing alto sax in the soul/Motown cover band Jake Gehret & The Brokedown Sound.
