Jazz St. Louis is pleased to announce a memorial concert for Richard McDonnell at Jazz at the Bistro, Sunday, May 25, 2014. McDonnell, who passed away February 8, was a long-time board member of Jazz St. Louis and the owner of the MAXJAZZ record label, based in Webster Groves. This concert will feature a headlining performance by MAXJAZZ artists Terell Stafford, Bruce Barth, Tim Warfield, and Carla Cook, joined by St. Louis’s Montez Coleman and Bob DeBoo, starting at 8:00 PM. Many St. Louis-based artists will be performing throughout the day, beginning at 1:00 PM, leading up to the headlining set. Brilliant Corners, the first band to record on the MAXJAZZ label, will also be performing. The concerts are general admission, free, and open to the public. A suggested donation of $25 can be made at the door to Jazz St. Louis in honor of Rich McDonnell. Food and drink service will be available throughout the day.
“Rich was always such a big supporter of Jazz St. Louis, and of jazz music in general. We’re honored to be able to celebrate his life with great music and the support of the artists on his label, as well as musicians from the St. Louis scene that he knew and loved,” said Gene Dobbs Bradford, Executive Director of Jazz St. Louis.
