State Recognizes Leading Jazz Organization in St. Louis;
One of the Nation’s Great Jazz Cities
Arts organization Jazz St. Louis has received a 2011 Missouri Arts Award from the Missouri Arts Council. Established in 1983, the award honors individuals and arts organizations that have made profound and lasting contributions to the cultural and artistic climate of the state. Nominees are reviewed by a committee of Missouri citizens from throughout the state who are knowledgeable, experienced, and highly respected in the arts.
“I am extremely pleased that Jazz St. Louis has been recognized with this prestigious award. For us, this recognition is a validation of our efforts over the past 15 years. It’s a tremendous honor for our board and staff as we look toward the future of jazz in St. Louis,” said Jazz St. Louis Executive Director Gene Dobbs Bradford. “Historically and artistically, Jazz IS St. Louis. Part of our mission is bringing that vital message to the St. Louis community; one of the premier jazz cities in the country.”
The award will be presented in a special ceremony on February 16, 2011, at the Capitol Rotunda in Jefferson City, MO.
